I was driving to the Mall at lunch today and I drove past a mini-bus taxi rank. As I went past I caught a glimpse of an old couple sitting on one of the benches waiting for a taxi so they could get a lift.
The couple looked so frail and old and out of place and I really felt sorry for them. Here was I, young and healthy, driving in my air-conditioned car, and there they sat. 30 degrees outside, the lady was wearing a hat and they had patient, happy looks on their faces. They had obviously been out for a bit of a treat to go shopping at the Mall, yet that is something I can take for granted.
As I drove on, the tears came to my eyes.
