"...so that the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you have said."
Take a moment to think about this... Quite a statement!
We can say what we like, but that doesn't change the facts. Just cos we say God is with us, it doesn't mean he is.
This verse is from Amos 5:14b. The first part of the verse says: "Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you have said."
This all comes in the context of sinning and complacency. Don't be fooled: if you are not seeking good and following God, He is not well pleased and don't think he will be "on your side".
The next chapter deals with complancency. The people had wonderful furniture, were striving to be comfortable, have good food, drink, music, lotions etc but were not close to God. They were warned that these things were going to pass away. It's not so different from how I and a lot of other people live.
The result is given in Chapter 6:7. "Therefore they shall now be the first of those to go into exile and the revelry of those who stretch themselves shall pass away."
